Rachel Bood
Studio Director.

Certified STOTT Pilates Mat, Reformer, Total Barre, Zenga, Injury & Special Population designation | TRE® practitioner | Core Confidence Specialist | AIDT Advanced Associate Modern | AIDT Associate Tap

Rachel has been passionate about movement for as long as she can remember. Dancing at home, dancing in grocery stores, dancing on beaches and in forests, feeling the joy as her body moved through the world, becoming a dancer made absolute sense! It was her dream to dance professionally and own her own studio one day. Rachel started teaching in 1995 and loved the challenge of helping people big and small feel movement as she did.

In 1998 debilitating pain took over her joy of movement, and everything changed. Eventually diagnosed with Ankylosing Spondylosis Rachel persevered completing her Advanced Associates with Association of International Dance Teachers in Modern and her Associates in Tap then delved deep into anatomy as she tried to understand what was happening to her body. Pain management and quality of life became the priority and a journey to empowerment and health.

In 2006 after moving to the Comox Valley, Rachel was introduced to Pilates from a rehab perspective by Lynn Brandon and Bodyworx Physiotherapy. The more she explored Pilates the more she began to find that joy of movement again. Combining her knowledge of anatomy and movement with Pilates ignited a new passion for sharing the benefits of this method and helping people find trust and safety in their own bodies.

Rachel became STOTT Pilates certified in mat and reformer in 2007 and has continued to add to her toolbox of knowledge with annual continuing education in stability chair and all small equipment as well as certifications in Injury and Special populations, Zenga, and Total Barre.

In 2018 Rachel became a TRE® Provider building on the idea of empowering herself and others with tools to balance their bodies and nervous system, get back to a healthy state and strengthen from the inside out.

Using vivid imagery, verbal cuing and hands-on feedback Rachel moves participants through organized and educational classes, with the goal to have people take what they learn in Pilates out into their world and feel better everyday!

Now her dream of owning a studio has come true in a different way than her childhood self imagined. Rachel is thrilled to have created a space of self care and community. A place where participants and teachers can come and explore movement in a safe, supportive and non judgmental way. She looks forward to moving with you!

Jenny Aird

Certified STOTT Pilates Mat and Reformer

Jenny started practicing Pilates after suffering a minor back injury. She immediately fell in love. She appreciates the very strong mind body connection and the integral foundation that the breath plays in all of the exercises. Breath is Life! Nothing has made her feel stronger, more balanced and more connected to all parts of herself than Pilates, and she loves that there is always something new to learn. Jenny loves that Pilates very much puts the power for healing in our own hands as we learn to use our awareness and effort to facilitate ease of movement, resilience and flexibility.

Jenny completed her certification in Stott Mat and Reformer Pilates at West Coast Pilates & Health in 2022.

Jenny also studied herbal medicine at the Northeast School of Botanical Medicine in 2010 and has been exploring the wonderful world of herbal medicine since then. She loves all things plants, being outdoors, eating food and reading. She is a perpetual student of life and is always learning something new.

She’s more than stoked to be part of the very talented and kind teachers at Aligned and is excited to see all of you in studio.
See you in class!

Shane Korpan

Certified STOTT Pilates Mat, Reformer, Cadillac, Chair, Barrels and Injuries and Special Populations

Shane lives in the Comox Valley with her husband and two young boys. When she’s not practicing or teaching Pilates, Shane leads an active lifestyle of skiing, both Alpine and Nordic in the winters, and spends the summers either on two wheels biking, or in the ocean SUP surfing on the west coast. She also enjoys chasing the wind, kitesurfing around the island throughout the windy season.

Shane grew up dancing competitively in Tap, Jazz, and Ballet until a knee injury ended her dance ambition at the age of 14. Once her knee injury was rehabilitated, to keep physically active Shane started playing competitive basketball and rugby, while always running for fitness. After experiencing numerous sport related injuries, and feeling pain from muscle imbalances in her body, Shane was introduced to Pilates by a former dance colleague. She immediately found the appeal of Pilates for the health benefits, to increase particular muscle strength and tone of the core muscles of the body. This lead her on the path to becoming a Certified STOTT PILATES Instructor in Essential and Intermediate levels for Matwork, Reformer, Cadillac, Chair, Barrels and Injuries and Special Population course work in 2011.

Shane hopes to share from her experience and deeper understanding of the importance of the local stabiliser muscles in restoring balance and normalise biomechanics in her clients. As an educator of quality movement, Shane likes to teach the foundation of pilates, building from the core strength and focusing on proper alignment. Then to progress open minded clients to find creative ways to grow stronger, and challenge their bodies to move in new ways. Shane strives to take an integrative mind/body approach to Pilates, respecting individual goals and limitations to get you moving and functioning better in your everyday lives.

Ryan Murphy

Practicing Kinesiologist, Mat/Reformer Pilates Teacher, Strength & Conditioning/Wellness Coach

My belief is that I can best help a client by asking questions. Understanding their desired outcomes, but also the deeper roots of who they want to be and how they want to feel. It helps me to tailor a program specifically to the whole of that person, but can also improve motivation through a sense of meaning and purpose.

I have worked as a Kinesiologist in physiotherapy clinics, gyms and pilates/yoga studios for over a decade. I have come to understand that my education had just begun when I graduated from university. I have learned so much from therapists, trainers and teachers from a wealth of disciplines as well as my clients themselves. This has led me to believe in the power of curiosity over judgement.

I see myself as a coach and a teacher whose calling is to find the practice to fit the person. I believe that to find transformation in our bodies we also need to be ready to transform our minds. For me one of the greatest feelings in the world is helping someone shift their perspective so they begin to see their challenges as opportunities for growth.

When you work with me I will help you discover how you can find more purpose in your practice and define your own version of health & wellness to fit your life.
